Founded
in 1976 and registered under the number 25/AD, this organization is a
member of the Lebanese Women Council, the Union of Arab Women "Aicha"
and the network of Arab NGOs for development. As a Lebanese
organization, it collaborates with other Arab democratic women's
associations in order to allow women to live freely with dignity and
without discrimination.
Main
objectives
- To activate womens
participation in the economic social and political fields
- To remove all
restrictions on the implementation of international regulations
calling for the abolition of all kinds of discrimination against
women.
- To implement all
clauses of international treaties in order to secure the abolition
of injustice towards women in the laws concerning: personal status
citizenship sentences social welfare work.
- To include women in
decision-making within the family, at work, in general politics.
- To co-ordinate with
womens and democratic movements towards development and
modernization

- Establishing
vocational training centers for women
- Providing regular
literacy courses
- Developing a
healthcare center that caters to 150 patients monthly, in the
southern suburbs
- Organizing
conferences and conducting consultations and studies

The Lebanon

Founded
in 1978, this non-governmental organization aims at promoting
reproduction by choice, and not by chance. Member of various
organizations, such as the Arab World Region in the International
Planned Federation (IPPF), the Lebanese National Permanent Committee
and the Lebanese Women Council, it was chosen to be the National Focal
Point for Lebanese NGOs in preparation for the Population Forum known
as ICPD +5.
Main
objectives:
- To reach a balance
between resources and family size
- To empower and
support women and increase their capabilities and involvement in
social and economic development.
- To educate and
promote awareness in the field of Reproductive Sexual Health
- To protect and
promote awareness of the youth concerning sexually transmitted
diseases and drug abuse
- To increase
awareness on population and development issues
Activities:
- Establishing
vocational training centers for women
- Establishing
clinics and dispensaries that provide, in addition to
contraceptives, pre-natal consultation and medical check-ups
- Organizing
workshops on the assessment of the situation of women in Lebanon
- Organizing numerous
conferences and training courses for field workers on women issues,
youth, gender and reproductive health
- Creating awareness
programs for Lebanese university students (both sexes but the
majority females)
- Organizing youth
camps on reproductive health
- Establishing a
Youth Educational Cell, on reproductive health, AIDS and other
sexually transmitted diseases

The
Non-Governmental National Committee for the Follow-Up of Women's Issues

The
National Committee was established in 1996, following the Beijing
conference. It aims at coordinating a network of various
non-governmental organizations dealing with womens affairs.
Main
objectives:
- To promote womens
participation in social, political and economic fields
- To eliminate all
forms of discrimination against women
- To encourage women
to exercize their rights and participate in the decision-making
process
- To reinforce
communication among women at the local, regional and international
levels
Activities
- Drafting the
national report on the Beijing Conference
- Examining all laws
and statutes pertaining to women
- Providing various
training sessions to women in the fields of leadership, negotiation,
conflict resolution, justice and democracy
- Drafting a shadow
report on the progress made in implementing the Convention on the
Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women

Lebanese Union
for Child Welfare

Founded in 1949 and
registered under the number 585/AD, the Lebanese Union for Child
Welfare was initially affiliated to the International Union for Child
Welfare. First of its kind in the Arab world, its activities are
spread through out the Lebanese territory.
Main Objectives
- To implement the
Convention on the Rights of the Child ratified by Lebanon in 1991.
- To implement the
Lebanese laws concerning children
- To implement the
Charter on the Rights of the Arab child
- To conduct research
and studies on the state of the child in Lebanon
- To disseminate the
principles, resolutions and recommendations adopted at international
and regional conferences.
- To help NGOs,
members of the Union, in their activities

promotion of their rights
